The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi thanked scientists and medics during a tour of the city's stem cell centre on Thursday.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, visited Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre, where researchers work to improve treatment for people with rare diseases.

The department has been involved in the fight against Covid-19, including work on testing and vaccine distribution.

That was in addition to studies on stem cell treatments for rare and genetic medical diseases.

The country plans a major push into science and research and development, with some of its universities now ranking high globally in those fields.

"It was a pleasure to meet the team of doctors and researchers at the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre who are carrying out advanced research," he said.

"Their inspiring work is a key part of UAE efforts to offer medical expertise to help eradicate diseases and support human development worldwide."
